Fort Worth was the second city in Texas to pass an anti discrimination policy for gay residents. Fort Worth's historic and brave Broadway Baptist Church was kicked out of the Southern Baptist Convention for accepting openly gay members into the church.
When the Rainbow Lounge was raided a few years ago, the city proactively responded by reaching out to the gay community and bettering relations with the police. I am gay, and would have no problem retiring in Fort Worth - without any reservation. Fort Worth has beautiful, historic neighborhoods that include many gay residents that I know.
The arts scene, and increasingly the restaurant scene, are superlative in Fort Worth. Fort Worth does not have many gay bars, but if you follow gay culture at all you'll find that gay bars and gay ghettos are becoming scarce across the country because of increasing tolerance.
Dallas may have more gay residents, but Fort Worth would be a fine choice as well. I hope things do get better in Fort Worth but it has a long way to go before competing with Dallas for gay residents. Having a gay city council member does not make Fort Worth a good place for gays to move.

Like everything else there's nothing Fort worth has that Dallas doesn't.

Months later, anti discrimination policies were in-acted, but not with out resistance. Fort worth is nice to visit because it does have great museums, historic neighborhoods, and restaurants.
I just don't recommend living there. There are a handful of gay bars in Fort Worth. Oak lawn is a nice neighborhood for anyone. South Jennings is Ghetto, that's why no gays live there.
